hey! dun be surprised! i went to army open house with xt and my sis on sat... quite fun ah...
took shuttle bus from jurong east.. Quite strict about security. Had to be scanned by detector and bag being checked before we can queue for the shuttle bus.. Each got a map of the open house and I was happily looking at what we should go for with the limited time we had
Entered safti finally... Even the bus had to be scanned.... First went to the parade square to find K, who was there on duty. Went for lunch at one of the canteens (food quite cheap ah). Then looked at some of the tanks at the parade square. Lots of military equipment were on display there. We climbed on a couple of tanks, took some pictures and decided to venture to a more "happening" area...
Took a internal shuttle to Area A... First, went on a live-firing safari ride. Before queueing up, had to go collect ear plugs, a dog tag with 'army open house' logo and a combat ration. Sat on a 5-tonner (like a truck). 2 rows to sit, with seat belts. Went off to the live firing area. Commentary would be played on a speaker as we reach a specific area. One area had a tank firing and another tank clearing mines on the road. Another had artillery tank? (i dunno all the names). Then crossed a river by a bridge that was made by amphillian tanks (tanks that become platforms and join together). Witnessed enemies coming from speedboats and getting shot... This place was damn funny.. The "actors" act so many times that this guy was shooting at the enemy without looking ahead. So amusing!!! Watched 2 tanks and a light-strike vehicle shoot at targets. The tank was damn loud ah!!!!! Got a shock for a while... Only realized that evening that my cousin was the gunner then!!! If only he replied my sms earlier... hahaha... Lastly, on the way back, we got "attacked" by terrorists! HELP!! Then they fell dead. All thanks to a camouflaged snipper! His camou is really quite good.. If he didn't wave, I don't think I can tell where he is.. 7th lunar month.. cannot wear ur camou and walk around. Will scare pple...
Then went to 'Adventure Land'... Went to play around with certain items of the obstacle course. I didn't do much.. Wasn't wearing correct shoes to walk or climb.. Anyway, I admit that I'm definitely not fit to do much around there... Just complete any 3 obstacles, get ur paper stamped, and u get a souvenir! I only did 2, but the guy still gave it to me.. hahaha.. so nice.. Anyway, the army guys there were quite friendly... Cannot climb wall but they still encourage xt to try. I didn't try.. Try pushing oneself up still fail, then a guy volunteered his knee.. hahaha.. Super amusing... Wanted to do flying fox, but too long queue....
Went on armoured vehicle rides... Went on a Bronco. Stood on it with a helmet. No goggles!! Damn it.. why never give me goggles... Super dusty ah... From time to time, I had to look down cause dust gets in my eyes...... Had a layer of dust after we went one round...
Then went to do some shooting... Went for M16. Got Sar-21 too but didn't go for it.. Pple only tell us that sar's better after we went... Doesn't matter I guess... If i'm not wrong, we did live rounds.. Each person had 5 shots... Learnt how to hold. I knew I had to aim thru the small hole, but only after 3 or 4 shots, then i realized that further down, there's a black pin that's supposed to point to ur aim.. How stupid I am.. Anyway, I shot my target at the 5th shot!!! Yay!!! I can aim!! Oh yah, we saw Charles and my fellow psy mate..
Went back to main area... Saw a 'army chin-up area'. Enthu pple queueing up to do chin-ups and all kinds of exercise....
Finally, ended at the parade square again... Saw more equipments.. So that marks the end of my visit to Army Open House... Although I know that it's for public education and a little "propaganda" maybe.. But who cares! I had fun!
