| The Keys to Your Heart |
![]() In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored. You'd like to your lover to think you are loyal and faithful... that you'll never change. You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic. Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with. Your risk of cheating is low. Even if you're tempted, you'd try hard not to do it. You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred. In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted. |
=)

Wine Appreciation
Went for a 1 hr course/talk on Fri evening at Heeren Marche. Didn't really understand the talk abt history, geography, country, how the vines shld face or not face the sun. Got a bit here and there only.
Tried 2 whites and 2 reds. Think I still like sauvignon blanc the best. It's the mildest wine but I think it's not bad. Thought I would like the reds, but I guess those 2 I tried weren't as sweet and fruity as I'd like it to be...

weekend
I like my weekends... It's precious and nice..
Friday: I went for dinner with my orientation friends from work. They're a great bunch of people. So glad we click very well... Emails to entertain each other. Emails to encourage each other when we're irritated or feeling down from work. Dinner abt once a month to meet up and chat and really laugh out loud. Anyway, we had dinner at Suntec Marche and we had a wondeful table! There'll abt 14 of us at one time and we had this big round table! It's so much better than those long tables. So we had lots of different dishes and we just pigged out.. hahaha. One thing interesting to note was that most of us bought a drink. Most of it was beer but the gals had erdinger and the guys had root beer. The world is changing!! Gals pigging out with a huge glass of beer and the guys drinking soft drinks.. I had a light erdinger. Shared with my friend. Nice nice.
Sat: as usual, i rush to my bodysculpt class at cck stadium. Come home, bathe, eat lunch, change and it's almost time to go for dance... So far, i've learnt 2 dances! latin cha cha and merengue. Well, I can say that I've only learnt the very basic steps. But it's fun enough. Hopefully next time I'll go on to salsa. Maybe latin cha cha too since it seems quite fun. I know some pple will think that dancing might be nonsensical, no point to it, nothing to gain from it. But I guess dancing gives u something different, puts some fun into ur life, make friends, and gain confidence when u see that ur body can actually move in some ways.. hahaha

Uni & Alumni
Just heard of news about how the dept(s) that I was in are currently using their power on the student society. In other words, BULLYING. This makes me think about how the unis are currently talking about getting in touch with their student alumni and getting their support in future (e.g. financial support). Well, just thought that next time if they talk about this again, I shld write to ST forum....
(Please pardon the bad english)
-----------------------------------------
Universities rallying their student alumni
I would like to comment about our local universities and their move towards getting support from student alumni.
I was an active member of a student society in a "top" local university that has its name in a worldwide university ranking. As a committee member, I have witnessed how the society has struggled to get support from the department, be it financial, physical or mental support. In executing projects, many a time the society had to do it on its own to raise funds and gain support from the student body. I have also been through times where the department would call upon the student society, only to pass their projects over without offering any help. Taking the annual open house to JC students as an example, the department had the society to act as student guides to lead visitors through the department facilites. However, visitors only had empty corridors and closed doors to view as no authority was available to open the labs and classrooms.
Currently as a member of student alumni, I have witnessed my previous department, being in charge of 2 majors, split into 2 separate departments. On top of that, I have seen the horrendous politics that departments are capable of. In view of the split at departmental level, a student referendum was held and majority voted for the society to stay as it was. However, the 2 departments are currently ignoring the student body's decision and using their authority to ensure that the society splits.
Now, universities are moving towards privatization and there has been a lot of talk about getting the students to "feel" for the school and contributing back after they have entered the workforce. However, from my personal experience in the university, I do not see how universities are going to get the alumni support they want.
In short: When I (the students) needed help and support, the university was not there. Now that the university needs help, how do you expect me (us) to be there for you?

What it could have been..... or actually even more crude. Much worse actually.. But I can't bear to write really bad in public
Universities rallying their student alumni
I would like to comment about our local universities and their move towards getting support from student alumni.
I was an active member of a student society in a "top" local university that has its name in a worldwide university ranking. For the 4 years I have been in the society, many projects were executed without any help from the department. When we needed funding, there was none. When we wanted lecturers to come, even for a little while, to show support, no one comes. Maybe 1 or 2, once in a while. When we wanted lecturers' agreement on our ideas, all we got were criticisms and put-downs. But when the department had to get something done, they show their quick speed in getting help from the society. Taking the annual open house to JC students as an example, all that the department did was to call up the society and tell them about the event and the need for students to come down on a Satuday to guide visitors on a campus tour. However, on the actual day, visitors only walked through empty corridors with all the classroom doors and lab doors closed. Why? Cause no one from the department was willing to come down and open any facilities for viewing!!! There was absolutely no plan and no support given to us. Some lucky ones from the first group got to see the computer lab and a peek into one experimental lab because the society members made use of labs while it was open for another half hour or so. That was all that could be seen for a departmental tour for one lucky group.
Currently as a member of student alumni, I have witnessed my previous department, being in charge of 2 majors, split into 2 separate departments. Due to the split of the department, there has been a lot of pressure on the student society to split as well. A student referendum was held recently to get the views of the student body on this matter. As a result, majority voted for the society to stay for this year. However, this was not what the departments wanted to hear. So what they did was to do dirty tricks like "threatening" the society that they were not going to fund them, not going to provide student advisors and that they could form their own societies and make the current one redundant. The referendum was just a show and a useless one. You didn't even care about what the students watned. The student body's decision has not been respected at all!!
Now, universities are moving towards privatization and there has been a lot of talk about getting the students to "feel" for the school and contributing back after they have entered the workforce. However, from my personal experience in the university, I do not see how universities are going to get the alumni support they want.
When students needed money, you tightened your budget and gave little/none. When we wanted people to come down, you had no time for us. When we wanted a sense of support, you treated us like idiots. So now you say you want money, time and support. Which idiot would bother about you after what you have done to us?????
